VOICEMAN BULLETIN – The Wild Wild Wind by Pia Danner
Boy! This was a fun, interesting and strange job. First of all, a VO friend of mine based in Berlin was asked while at a local recording session if he knew any Americans and, long story short, he hooked me up with Ansgar Freyberg of Sonnenstudio Music Berlin. The job was to record the English version of a German children’s story to be released as an App. Next, enter the person behind the project, Pia Danner, who introduced herself via a sweet little video message giving me directions & background and also asking : “If it’s not too much trouble can you sing a little song at the end...you can make it up”. That was a first! I’ve been asked to voice many things, but never called upon to sing. Well, I told them both that I wasn’t much of a singer but I did it anyway, caught up in the fun of it all. Someone said I sound like Lou Reed, which would be great if it was really true! In the end, this was probably the most enjoyable job I’ve ever done and Pia and Ansgar are great people, friendly and professional, a real pleasure to work with. The finished App is available HERE.
Oh yeah, there’s more! I recorded another kids story around the same time as Wild Wild Wind, again with Sonnenstudio Music and Pia Danner - it was originally called “Hairgnomes” but on release it may be entitled “Hair Dwarves”. Not sure yet so, as they say, “watch this space”. It’s about little creatures that live in your hair, way too small to see or feel, who come out at night and are responsible for mens’ baldness. So remember to brush and wash your hair regularly! Coming soon.
